Big Thank You's go out to all of our hosts so far this year! All of the coaches, parents, and students at the following schools did a fantastic job hosting -

• Edison – Public Forum and LD II

It goes without saying that without willing host schools, we would not have facilities for competition - Thank you for making all of these tournaments smashing successes!

Prepare for the MEGA December Tournament!!!!
**********************************************************************
December 15^th Tournament at Westfield – The December tournament will be all event areas – Speech, Congress, LD, Policy and Public Forum – so you need to prepare now! This will be a big tournament – your cooperation is appreciated and vital to making the tournament a success. Here are some helpful reminders.

• Arrange for your judges now! Your debate alumni may be back in the area for the holiday and able to help out – network!

• Please ensure that your e-mail registrations are complete and submitted to the appropriate event VPs by the registration deadline.

• You must meet your judge commitment/quota in each event separately/independently. For example, you can not indicate the same judge for both Policy and Speech or Congress and LD. A judge can only be entered as a judge in one event area.

• Judges must be qualified in their event area – if you have questions, please contact the event VP’s.

• On-site Registration starts at 8AM and ends at 8:30AM. In order to have the tournament run smoothly, do not plan your transportation arrangements to arrive at the tournament site in the ‘nick of time’ at 8:30AM – your team must be registered by 8:30AM or it will be dropped from the tournament.

• Coaches or the designated adult representatives are responsible for on-site registration – students can not register individually.

• Students must be supervised/chaperoned by a school-authorized adult for the entire tournament day.

·        Special Items of Note for the December 15^th Tournament –

 WACFL will be selling DB8 and 4N6 stickers to raise money to benefit the Eleanor E. Wright Library Fund. Stickers are $2 each.

Canned goods and monetary donations will be collected for SOME (So Others May Eat) - This group feeds the hungry in all three of the areas where our schools are and students live, Northern Virginia, DC, and Maryland.

Public Forum Debate December 2007 Topic: Resolved: That the United State would be justified in pursuing military options against Iran.

Membership Update – Looking for Additional Washington Archdiocese Members

Thanks to all of the schools that either mailed in or directly submitted forms and fees for membership in WACFL and NCFL. Forms and fees can still be submitted past the October 31 deadline but must include the 10% late charge. Of particular note is that we need at least 3 additional schools in the Washington Archdiocese in order to increase the number of students that can go to Nationals in each event area from 3 to 4 for Washington!! If you are aware of any new schools looking to join, please contact Ann Marie Phillips ASAP! Based upon the number of Arlington schools that have submitted forms/paperwork, Arlington will have 6 slots in each event area for Nationals.

Registration forms for WACFL and NCFL membership are available on the web site. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the status of your paperwork, please contact Roland Burdett or Roberta Hyland. Paperwork and fees must be submitted in order to be eligible to compete at NCFL Nationals in May.

Suggestions for NCFL Nationals Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas Topics:
If any coaches have topic suggestions for NCFL Nationals in Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas, please forward your topic suggestions to Roland Burdett, NCFL Grand Tournament Director.

Tournament Location Reminders:
We now have a host for Policy IV/Speech IV/Public Forum IV on January 12^th – Edison!! Thank you for volunteering!
We now have a host for Speech V/LD V on February 9^th – Walt Whitman!! Thank you for volunteering!

The current calendar is available on the web site – please make sure you have the up-to-date version. Coaches of schools that have already committed to hosting a WACFL tournament in 2007-2008 should confirm with school administration that your buildings are reserved for the appropriate date(s) and that the event is on the official school calendar.  Please also take a few moments to check the directions to your school on the WACFL web site to ensure accuracy and provide updated information to Roberta.Hyland@wacfl.org.
